Why ARE hamsters so friggin cute?

Seriously. What makes them so adorable? They're 100% my kryptonite but objectively there's nothing super special about them like with a kitten or a puppy (they can't really perform tricks, they don't have much breeding variation aside from colour and fur, they're not even very noisy.) I wonder, is it the small size?
